A Clark County deputy prosecutor said during an initial appearance hearing Friday that the state may file more serious charges against a 21-year-old man from Battle Ground accused of attacking his family with an 8-inch serrated bread knife.
Colin Dixon was arrested on suspicion of assault following the Wednesday morning incident at the family’s Battle Ground home.
But Deputy Prosecutor Greg Harvey told Superior Court Judge Bernard Veljacic that Dixon was facing allegations of attempted second-degree murder.
Harvey indicated the state may file attempted first-degree murder charges.
The judge accepted the prosecution’s bail recommendation of $750,000. If released, Dixon is also barred from possessing firearms or contacting his alleged victims — his father, mother and sister.
Officers responded to a call about the stabbing at 12:47 a.m. at a residence in the 1200 block of North Parkway Avenue, according to the city of Battle Ground.
A family member, who police said was a minor, told officers her brother stabbed her father.
The officers entered the home and found Christian Dixon, 42, with stab wounds.
Harvey said Colin Dixon attacked his father, who was sleeping on a couch, with a serrated knife.
Christian Dixon was severely cut on his neck and had to undergo emergency surgery, the prosecutor said.
Colin Dixon’s mother and sister intervened and both were attacked with the same knife and suffered deep cuts, Harvey said. The young man also stands accused of choking his sister.
The victims, according to Harvey, told police they believed they were going to die.
Colin Dixon told police he was in a “dream state” when he attacked his family, Harvey said. The prosecutor noted that the Dixons reported Colin Dixon did not have a history of mental illness.
Arraignment in the case was set for Feb. 2.
Correction: The above article incorrectly reported that Superior Court Judge Gregory Gonzalez handled the hearing for Colin Dixon. The judge was Bernard Veljacic.
