Mountain View — Mountain View High School was named a 2017 national winner of the Programs of Excellence Blue Ribbon Award.

Mountain View was one of four high schools in the country to earn the distinction from the National Band Association. Schools have to submit unedited live recordings from a concert or festival made up of 35-40 minutes of musical material from at least two different school years.

Between 25-30 minutes of that material should be from the first-tier concert band, and those recordings must include at least one traditional military-style march and one original band work.

The remaining recordings could be excerpts from marching band, jazz ensemble or chamber/percussion groups.

Sam Ormson and Robert Rutherford are the directors of the Mountain View band.
