Two organizations are offering advocacy training in advance of the Feb. 1 Homeless and Housing Advocacy Day in Olympia.

Top legislative priorities for the council and REACH Community Development are increasing deed recording fees, investing at least $106 million in the Housing Trust Fund and banning discrimination based on a tenant’s source of income.

The two agencies are hosting the training 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23 in the community room at 2500 Main St. in Vancouver. There’s street parking and parking in the building’s upper and lower lots. During the training people can learn about issues and active legislation; how to talk with legislators about issues you value; and how to participate in Housing and Homeless Advocacy Day.

On Feb. 1, the Council for the Homeless will be providing free bus transportation to the Capitol from First Church of Christ Scientist in Vancouver. The bus will leave at 7 a.m. and return around 6 p.m. People can register for a spot on the bus by contacting Brenda Schallberger at info@councilforthehomeless.org or 360-993-9561; the registration deadline is Jan. 29.
