YALE — Lewis River Road, state Highway 503, near Speelyai Bay Road will resume two-lane travel Friday evening.

The Washington State Department of Transportation announced its contractor will reopen both highway lanes of the roadway east of Woodland, where hillside recovery work has been ongoing.

The highway closed in March 2017 when a portion of an adjacent hillside slid onto the roadway and a 20-million-pound rock slab precariously hung from the hill above.

So far, more than 1,600 truckloads of material were removed from the area.

The $3.5 million emergency repair project still requires some work.

Travelers should expect some rough road conditions around the slide area. This summer, crews will repave the roadway and landscape adjacent areas.
