Hawks coach Jon Warner hopes a loss like what his Hockinson team had Thursday is more of a positive as the 2A GHSL schedule approaches the halfway point next week.
“Hopefully” he said, “we’re moving in the right direction. I’m still really proud of them.”
That’s after making it a one-possession game in the game’s final seconds after trailing by as many as nine in the second half against a Monarchs squad that’s won or shared the past 17 consecutive league titles.
Warner credited his team’s execution and sticking to the game plan for 32 minutes that led to success Thursday.
Payton Brammer led the way with 21 points and and Mason Panfiglio added 19, including 7 of 9 at the line.
Brammer’s basket made it a 62-60 game on Hockinson’s second-to-final possession and after Mark Morris made 1 of 4 free throws, Hockinson’s half-court heave was no good.
