Pleasant Valley — Rachel Friesen, 17, passed her verbal and flight examinations with the Federal Aviation Administration on Dec. 30 to earn her private pilot’s license.

The iTech Preparatory School senior, who is also in Clark College Running Start, took her first solo flight in February and has been taking flying lessons at Aero Maintenance Flight Center. Her dream is to become a commercial pilot, like her father. Two of her grandparents are pilots, as well.

Seventeen is the youngest age at which someone can earn their private pilot’s license, according to the administration’s website.
