The Vancouver-based M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust donated $17 million to organizations in the Northwest during its latest round of grants.
That includes $400,000 to Open House Ministries, a faith-based shelter and homeless service provider, toward its 15,558-square-foot resource center. The Tod and Maxine McClaskey Family Resource Center is currently under construction and scheduled to be finished in the spring. It costs $3.35 million total.
The trust also gave Portland-based Friends of the Children $150,000 to hire new staff to serve at-risk youth in Vancouver. The nonprofit provides children with professional mentors, called a Friend, from kindergarten through graduation.
People of Praise, the Vancouver-based nonprofit supporting Portland’s Trinity Academy, received $200,500 from the trust to hire a new executive director.
