Phil Phimister, who coached track and cross country and taught at Prairie for nearly 30 years, was inducted into the school’s athletic hall of fame before Friday’s boys basketball game against Hudson’s Bay.
Phimister, who died in August at 64, coached thousands of track and cross country athletes. Several were in attendance on Friday.
Prairie athletic director Jason Castro spoke about how when he asked area coaches, ADs and alumni about what made Phimister special, a common theme emerged.
“He went above and beyond in all that he did,” Castro said. “He stood for something bigger than just wins and losses. He did things the right way. He cared, I mean he like REALLY cared. Your relationship didn’t end when you graduated. It continued.”
