We are still enjoying a tranquil weather pattern this week. Today we introduce some light precipitation. Moisture moving up from California into the dry east winds will have a struggle to produce much precipitation initially.
Another low swings in Friday and over the weekend, but again, amounts look to be small. The ski areas will get some light rain before a little snow falls Saturday. Looking into next week, the snow outlook is dismal. Freezing levels will remain high and any moisture that falls will be rain up to the 6,000 or 7,000 foot level. That means Timberline will get rain rather than snow next week. If you are looking to hit the slopes, Saturday would be the best day.
The extended outlook for the next 10 to 14 days calls for our local weather to be warmer than average and precipitation less than average. This is certainly not good news for this time of the year when we should be adding to the mountain snowpack. We have been in this situation before and recovered with good mountain snows in March and April. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Our highs and lows will be uneventful the next week or so with highs in the 40s and lows in the 30s. There will probably not be much in the way of subfreezing temperatures. Looking at the weather back East gives me the shivers. Incredible snow and cold. Almost like the north arctic region has settled in for the winter. They will not moderate much any time soon.
