Hazel Dell — The Washington State University Vancouver Master Food Preservers welcomed a new graduating class into the program. In 2017, there were seven graduates, who can now advise and teach others in the community about food preservation. To earn the “master” status, the students completed an intensive training course learning about food safety and food preservation and attended hands-on canning classes. The food preservers attend events throughout Clark County and some in Cowlitz County, providing information about food preservation and safety. They host how-to lectures and canning classes through the WSU Clark County extension office and attend various local fairs. The most recent graduates were Jessika Brenin, Helen Redmond, Carol Moses, Kristen Clark, Debra Basquez, Claire Nichols and Mary Kate Robbins.
