A domestic violence report Monday afternoon resulted in a three-hour standoff before the suspect was taken into custody by Clark County sheriff’s deputies.

The incident began with a 3:22 p.m. call from a woman who said she was hiding in an upstairs bedroom of a home at 15110 N.E. 69th St. after her boyfriend armed himself with a knife and threatened to kill her.

According to a sheriff’s news release, officers arrived to find the woman outside. As they talked to her, the suspect opened the front door and appeared to be carrying a handgun. He refused to surrender and retreated into the house.

A standoff ensued and a SWAT team was called to the scene. The suspect, identified as Veniamin I. Zimin, 37, of Vancouver, initially talked to a negotiator, but then would not speak further.

After obtaining a search warrant, the SWAT team entered the house about 6:50 p.m. and arrested Zimin without incident, according to the news release.

He was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of felony harassment (domestic violence.)
