An investigator with the U.S. Coast Guard appeared Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of second-degree rape, following a report of sexual assault at a Hazel Dell residence.

Jonathan Sall, 56, of Poulsbo, a civilian employee with the Coast Guard Investigative Service in Seattle, is being held on $20,000 bail.

He was arrested Saturday after Clark County sheriff’s deputies were called shortly after 6 a.m. to a residence in the 2700 block of Northeast 72nd Circle. Sall allegedly climbed into a co-worker’s bed and sexually assaulted the co-worker’s girlfriend, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The victim said she awoke about 3 a.m. to Sall inappropriately touching her. She kicked Sall and demanded that he get out of the couple’s bedroom. He then began crawling out of the bedroom, she said, as if he was trying to not be seen, the affidavit states.

Sall’s co-worker said the commotion woke him up, and he, too, saw Sall crawling from the bedroom, court records said.

Sall told investigators that he had come from Seattle for a party at the couple’s residence. He said he couldn’t remember much of what transpired overnight. When questioned about the sexual assault, he reportedly said, “I have nothing more to say,” according to the affidavit.

Court records indicate that he plans to retain his own attorney. He will be arraigned March 2.

Sall was on assignment as the special agent in charge of the Coast Guard’s Northwest region. He was relieved of this position pending the outcome of the investigation, according to a press release from the Coast Guard. Special Agent Rick Cox will temporarily fill the position.

“The Coast Guard is assisting local law enforcement to ensure a thorough and complete investigation,” the press release states.
