Snowy day for some parts of county

Northern and eastern Clark County saw a dusting of snow Sunday, with a few inches falling around Battle Ground and Camas, but even those areas that missed the first significant low snowfall of the year should watch for ice this morning.

Today’s forecast calls for a high near 36 degrees and sunny skies for Vancouver, but that’s after a night with lows around 23 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Portland.

“With those temperatures and wet roads out there tonight, even those areas that didn’t see snow today will probably see slick spots,” meteorologist Laurel McCoy said Sunday evening.

Those who can, may do well to hold off on travel until afternoon, or at least plan for a longer commute, she said.

Road crews will likely have most main roadways treated with de-icing solution by the time traffic starts, she said. However, “the bigger concern is with those neighborhood roads, those roads they just can’t get to.”

Sunday’s snowfall was mostly felt in areas above 500 feet in elevation, McCoy said.

Subfreezing temperatures are forecast to return to the Vancouver area tonight, but the skies should be partly cloudy.

Forecasters are calling for a slight chance of snow from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a chance for both rain and snow. Tuesday’s high will be around 38 degrees.

Tuesday night will see low temperatures around 29 degrees, and, again, a slight chance of rain and snow showers before 10 p.m., with a slight chance of snow showers on to 4 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Snow or not, little or no accumulation is expected in the area Tuesday.

The weather service predicts there’s a slight chance of snow showers Wednesday, along with a high temperature around 40 degrees. The week’s forecast high temperatures start rising after Wednesday, hanging around the upper 40s, with nighttime lows above freezing.

Forecasters also say to expect rain through the rest of the week.
