The Union girls basketball team hang tough with an athletic Todd Beamer squad before Beamer pulled away in a consolation round game Thursday at the 4A bi-district tournament.

Union will get one last chance to secure a state berth against Olympia on Saturday.

Beamer led 36-29 at halftime, but used a 24-9 edge in the third quarter to pull away.

“Todd Beamer is just a physical, athletic team, and they were able to disrupt what we were trying to do offensively,” Union coach Mike Cranston said. “We battled in the first half, only down seven. I thought we played a really strong half. But things just got away from us in the second half.”

Mason Oberg paced Union with 14 points. Alexis Raymore and freshman Kaneyl Carpenter added eight each.
