The American Red Cross Cascades Region is hosting its annual Hero Awards Breakfast in March to honor local people for their life-saving actions in the community.
The Red Cross said in a press release that the breakfast is set for 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. March 9 at the Hilton Vancouver Washington. Among those to be honored include a woman who coordinated the rescue of hundreds of animals in the Columbia River Gorge during the Eagle Creek wildfire, two firefighters who entered a burning building to rescue a woman trapped on the second floor, a high school student who saved his father’s life by performing CPR and a utilities employee who noticed a customer was having a medical emergency while on the phone with her and called for an ambulance.
“The selflessness, bravery and commitment to community displayed by this year’s Hero Award winners is beyond inspiring,” said Josy Wright, board chair of the Southwest Washington Chapter of the American Red Cross. “Hearing their stories is a powerful reminder that there are amazing people among us.”
