Clark edged out by Mt. Hood in OT, 94-88

Clark Athletics Hall of Fame game set for Saturday vs. SW Oregon

It couldn’t have been more even Wednesday night at the O’Connell Sports Complex.

The Clark College men’s basketball team and Mt. Hood played even to halftime and then needed overtime before the Saints were able to pull away for a 94-88 NWAC South region victory.

There were 16 ties and 15 lead changes in the game. Neither team had a lead greater than six points.

Clark (7-16, 3-9) led by four at 73-69 with two minutes to play after a 3-pointer by Tyler Fernstrom.

With 58 seconds to play, Mt. Hood (9-14, 5-7) tied the game with a 3-pointer, and then following a missed 3-point attempt by Clark, took a two-point lead with 34 seconds play on a pair of free throws.

Clark’s Courtney Anderson tied the game with a jumper with 8 seconds to play and the game would go into overtime.

Anderson scored seven of Clark’s 11 points in the overtime. His 3-pointer gave Clark its last lead at 80-79. He also made a jumper that tied the game for the last time at 84-84 with 1:35 to play in OT.

Mt. Hood regained the lead for good 16 seconds later, and made 6 of 6 free throws in the final minute to ice the game.

Anderson led the Penguins with 21 points. He also had six rebounds and three assists. Kaden Ogles had 20 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, and Jesse Vogel came off the bench to score 19 points. Also in double figures for Clark were Tyler Fernstrom with 11 points and LaTrell Johnson with 10 points.

Mt. Hood’s Steven Fair led all scorers with 32 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists.

WOMEN: Mt. Hood 78, at Clark 61 — The Saints (10-12, 7-5 NWAC South) never trailed in the game, sending the Penguins (1-21, 1-10) to their seventh straight defeat.

Evergreen High grad Felicia Bahr came off the bench for Clark to lead all scorers with 24 points in 27 minutes of action. She made 8 of 13 shots with six 3-pointers. Jazmyn Brown was also in double figures with 12 points.

Another Evergreen grad, Makienze Smith scored eight points in five minutes for Mt. Hood.

UP NEXT

Clark hosts Southwestern Oregon on Saturday on Hall of Fame Night for the Penguins. The women’s game tips off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m. This year’s Clark Hall of Fame class will be introduced at halftime of the men’s game.

The Clark College Athletics Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony is 6 p.m. in the Penguin Union Building. Honored this year are Michael Theodore Gaechter (1960, men’s track and field), Kate Burton (2005, women’s track and field), Ken Boydstun (1955, men’s basketball and baseball), the 2002 women’s cross country team, and then 2003 women’s track and field team.
