PORTLAND — An investigation has found that Portland Public Schools retaliated against a substitute teacher for reporting sexual misconduct by one of its employees.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports a district human resources investigation found Caprice, who asked to only be identified by her first name, was iced out of substitute teaching positions because of a report she made in 2012.
She reported that then-teacher Mitch Whitehurst had demanded oral sex from her and a friend when they were students in the 1980s.
Records showed she put in for, and was selected for, substitute teaching days at the school where Whitehurst taught — but that her assignments were canceled before they took effect.
