A man involved in the robbery of a Vancouver Umpqua Bank branch in October 2016 was sentenced Monday in Clark County Superior Court to two years in prison.

Justin D. Taylor, 29, previously pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery stemming from the Oct. 21, 2016, incident at 11515 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. He was originally charged with first-degree robbery, but the charge was amended as part of a plea deal.

His co-defendant, Kaelesha Bennett, 21 — who entered the bank about 11 a.m. and presented a note to a teller demanding money — pleaded guilty in February 2017 to attempted first-degree robbery and was sentenced to 25 months in prison.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Taylor reportedly put Bennett up to the robbery and drove her to the bank. Employees saw him inside during the robbery and said they thought he may have been a “diversion.”

Bennett made off with $473. She was arrested in December 2016 on a warrant by the U.S. Marshal’s Service after bank surveillance footage shared between investigators and police in Beaverton, Ore., confirmed she was the robber, court documents state.

In addition to his prison sentence, Taylor will serve 18 months of community custody and must pay back the stolen money, court records show.
