VANCOUVER — Nine teams from seven schools will participate in the two-day Clark County District Mock Trial Tournament beginning Wednesday at the Clark County Courthouse.

High school students will present the case of “Won’t Back Down,” a felony assault case in which the defendant claims self-defense.

The participants include two teams from Camas High School and Cascadia Tech, and one team from Columbia River High School, Columbia High School in White Salmon, Hockinson High School, Morton High School and Seton Catholic High School.

There will be three rounds of five trials each day of the tournament. Teams will present both the prosecution and defense. Each trial is presided over by a “judge” and is scored by a three-attorney “jury.” Trials, or rounds, take about 2 1/2 hours and are held in available courtrooms.

The schedule for rounds on both days is: 12:30 to 3 p.m.; 3 to 5:30 p.m.; and 5:30 to 8 p.m. Awards will be presented at about 8:20 p.m. Thursday.
