Gregg Swenson, a 22-year veteran of coaching college baseball, has been hired as the varsity head baseball coach at King’s Way Christian High School, athletic director Ted Buck announced Monday.

Swenson replaces Ty Singleton, who stepped down last month after four years with the program.

Swenson has spent the past two seasons as the pitching coach at the University of Portland, where he also served as the Academic Coordinator and Community Outreach Coordinator for the Pilots.

Prior to join the UP staff, Swenson spent 10 seasons as the pitching coach at Washington State. In his 26 years of coach, he also has had stops at the University of Washington, Tacoma Community College and Sehome High School. At Washington, he worked with two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum.

“Gregg brings not only a vast experience and knowledge of coaching baseball in the Northwest, but is a man of integrity, character and faith,” Buck said. “King’s Way baseball families are looking forward to participating in the next chapter of Knights baseball.”

Swenson takes over a program that won the 1A state championship last spring in its third year as a varsity program. The Knights return pitchers Sam Lauderdale, a Washington State signee, and Damon Casetta-Stubbs, who will pitch next year at Seattle University.

A native of Olympia, Swenson has a degree in physical education/exercise science and physiology/sports psychology from Western Washington. He also has masters in teaching from City University.
