Community notebook: Presidents’ Day hoop tournament takes over Clark County gyms

Youth basketball will take center court in Clark County this weekend as the 2018 adidas Presidents’ Day National Championship Tournament takes place.

This tournament for boys and girls teams in eighth to third grade has drawn 441 teams from all over the nation in addition to many local entries.

Games are scheduled for Saturday through Monday. A schedule will be posted online at www.hoopsourcebasketball.com.

Admission for spectators will be charged daily and is good for all venues. General admission is $10, seniors (60-over) and students (6-18 years old) are $7, and children 5-under are free. Cash only.

Games will be played at the following Clark County venues:

• ABA Courts (two courts), 16303C N.E. 15th Street in Vancouver.

• Camas High School (three courts), 26900 SE 15th St., in Camas.

• Discovery Middle School (two courts), 800 East 40th St., in Vancouver.

• Evergreen High School (two courts), 14300 N.E. 18th St., in Vancouver.

• Fort Vancouver High (one court), 5700 E. 18th St., in Vancouver.

• Heritage High (three courts), 7825 N.E. 130th Ave., in Vancouver.

• Hockinson Community Center (one court), 17912 N.E. 158th St., in Brush Prairie.

• Hockinson High (three courts), 16819 N.E. 159th St., in Brush Prairie.

• Hockinson Middle School (three courts), 15916 N.E. 182nd Ave., in Brush Prairie.

• Hudson’s Bay High (two courts), 1601 East McLoughlin Blvd., in Vancouver.

• Liberty Middle School (two courts), 1612 N.E. Garfield St., in Camas.

• McLoughlin Middle School (two courts), 5802 MacArthur Blvd., in Vancouver.

• Mountain View High (four courts plus tournament headquarters), 1500 S.E. Blairmont Dr., in Vancouver.

• Ridgefield High (three courts), 2630 S. Hillhurst Rd., in Ridgefield.

• Union High (two courts), 6201 N.W. Friberg-Strunk St. in Camas.

• Venues in the Portland metro area include: East Clackamas Community College, Eastmoreland, Gresham High, Marshall High, Oregon City High, Rosemont Ridge Middle School in West Linn, West Linn High, and the Chiles Center at the University of Portland.

Salmon Creek trail runs set for Saturday

The Clark County Running Club has schedule a Salmon Creek Trail Run over a flat and fast course on Saturday.

Distances to choose from are 3, 6, 8 and 10 miles. Race begins at Klineline Park at 10 a.m.

CCRC run coordinator Bryan Chapman is hosting this last event before the Vancouver Lake Half Marathon, which is Feb. 25.

Get ready for spring break tennis camps

Evergreen Tennis in Camas will be offering a spring break tennis camps, April 2-6.

Participants from ages 5 and up can choose their days or the entire week to take part in games, skills and drills.

Groups going from 10-11 a.m. in 60-minute sessions are QuickStart (ages 5-7), EasyStart (7-10) and Student (ages 9-up).

Weekly rate if registered by March 25 is $80. After is $90 for Evergreen members or $115 non-members. Daily rate is $20 members, $25 non-members.

Groups from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in 90-minutes sessions are Teen-beginners (ages 13-up), Competitor, and High Performance.

Weekly rate is $112 if registered by March 25. After is $125 members, $150 non-members. Daily rate is $28 members, $33 non-members.

Register now for youth baseball tournament

The Northwest Spring Training baseball tournament for youth teams is scheduled for March 10-11 at the Harmony Sports Complex in Vancouver and Gordon Faber Rec Complex in Hillsboro, Ore.

Age groups are 9-under through 14-under at the majors and AAA combined divisions.

Groups U9 through U12 and U14 will play in Vancouver. The U13 group will play at Hillsboro.

Entry fee is $625 for U9/U10, $650 for U11/U12, $675 for U13, and $699 for U14. Four game guarantee with two exhibition style games on Saturday and floating double elimination on Sunday.
