Saturday was another great, mostly sunny day, wasn’t it? Did you feel the chill in the air? As mentioned here Thursday, cooler and drier air filtered inland and Vancouver officially dropped to 32 degrees early yesterday. We only managed to reach 50 degrees in the late afternoon.
A colder air mass will hover over us today and tomorrow before we see highs getting back into the mid to upper 50s later in the week. Two weak weather disturbances drop down the British Columbia coast with today’s system remaining just off the coastline for a little chance of showers in the valleys. Another colder system from the Northwest Territories slides down along the coast and, again, not much in the way of precipitation. The air mass is cold enough that we could see some snowflakes here in the lowlands if moisture arrives by early morning. It is doubtful this would be a cause for concern.
It’s just Old Man Winter flexing his muscles — weakly, I say. After Tuesday, we slowly warm and fair weather abounds the remainder of the week. It will be cold Tuesday morning, into the 20s in most areas of the county. We may even get freezing fog. Yep, the calendar still says it’s February.
Phil Delany, who lives above Dole Valley, had his coldest low of the year on Saturday morning at 26 degrees. I bet Tuesday morning it drops even lower — with parting clouds, that is. Vancouver’s 32 degrees Saturday was the coldest since Jan. 3 when it was 31 degrees. Jan. 1 was 27 degrees and Jan. 2 was 28. We could top that on Tuesday morning if skies stay clear in the early morning hours.
