The Prairie girls basketball teamhad its best defensive effort of the year, coach Hala Corral said, holding the Timberline of Lacey to just four field goals, as Prairie clinched its 21st consecutive trip to the state tournament with a 70-18 win over Friday.
Prairie (20-2) advances to play Lincoln of Tacoma (21-1) on Wednesday in the 3A bi-district semifinals.
“Our defensive intensity was the best I’ve seen it all year,” Corral said. “They were just flying all over the place. We had 22 steals and only gave up four baskets. It was fun to watch.”
Haley Reed and Cassidy Gardner ned Prairie with five steals each.
“We’ve been really focusing on our defense,” Corral said. “You can have a bad shooting night, but if you play good defense, you’ll always give yourself a chance. We’ve been preaching that all year, and it all came together tonight.”
