SAN FRANCISCO — Frankie Ferrari had 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Nate Renfro scored 12 points to help San Francisco hold on for a 65-63 win over Portland on Thursday night.

Chase Foster added 11 points and Matt McCarthy 10 for USF (14-12, 6-7 West Coast Conference).

Renfro had two dunks and a layup during a 10-0 opening run and the Dons never trailed. Malcolm Porter scored eight points in a 12-5 spurt that pulled the Pilots (10-16, 4-9) within two points with six minutes left in the half before USF took a 28-26 lead into the break.

Portland tied it three times in the second half and two free throws by Marcus Shaver Jr. made it 60-59 with 1:32 to play. Ferrari and Shaver then traded jumpers before Ferrari hit two foul shots to make it 64-61 with 32 seconds left. Shaver made two free throws before Foster hit one to give USF a two-point lead with 13 seconds remaining and D’Marques Tyson missed a potential winning 3-pointer with three seconds to go.

Shaver led Portland with 22 points.
