The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents to be on the alert for a phone scam from grifters posing as sheriff’s office staff.
According to the sheriff’s office, scammers have been calling people, identifying themselves as sheriff’s office representatives, then telling people they owe a cash payment or face arrest on an outstanding warrant.
The caller tells targets there is a warrant out for the targets’ arrest, for something like missing jury duty or other matters, and they are to bring cash or pre-paid cash cards to someone to take care of the warrant.
This is bunk, the sheriff’s office warned.
The sheriff’s office will not ask for cash to resolve an arrest warrant. Deputies may call people to set up in-person meetings to make an arrest or conduct an interview, but they won’t ask for cash, the sheriff’s office said.
