With nine seconds left, Freshman Lillie Mueller subbed in for the Hawks last play. Mueller caught the ball off a never-before-used inbounds play and drilled the tying basket that ended up forcing overtime.
“This is a gritty group,” Hockinson coach Damon Roche said. “Cardiac kids, man.”
Shigeno, who has gone from the end of the bench to a key rotation player over the past month, scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Hawks.
“She’s just in everybody’s business,” Roche said. “She was the X-factor.”
Hockinson plays Mark Morris on Wednesday. The winner gets second place in the 2A GSHL and secures home court advantage to open the playoffs hosting W.F. West; loser travels to Black Hills.
