A 37-year-old man was sentenced Wednesday to four months in jail for ramming his Ford Taurus into law enforcement and paramedic vehicles last year.

Kevin A. Gouveia was originally arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault, possession of methamphetamine, second- and third-degree malicious mischief and possession of a dangerous weapon for the Dec. 28 incident.

He pleaded guilty to amended charges filed Wednesday of third-degree assault and first-degree malicious mischief.

According to sentencing records, Superior Court Judge Derek Vanderwood also placed Gouveia on community supervision for a year.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the report of a man, later identified as Gouveia, slumped over the wheel of a silver Ford Taurus in the 1300 block of Northeast 102nd Street in Hazel Dell. When responders arrived, he was still slumped over the wheel, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

A deputy used a loud hailer to tell Gouveia they were there to check on him. Deputies then knocked on the Ford’s windows to wake him, the affidavit states.

Gouveia awoke, then put his car in reverse, ramming a Clark County Fire District 6 fire engine. He pulled forward and slammed into a sheriff’s patrol vehicle, reversed again, and slammed into the patrol vehicle once more, court records said.

Deputies then broke the passenger’s side window to pull Gouveia out of the car. While handcuffing him, two bundles of what appeared to be drugs fell out of his pocket. Both tested positive for methamphetamine, according to the affidavit.

Senior Deputy Prosecutor James Smith said none of the responders was injured when Gouveia was ramming vehicles.
