Will we usher in 2019 with a wet New Year’s? Check our local weather coverage.

In case you missed them, here are some of the top stories from the week:

Battle Ground chocolate maker growing each year after surviving crash course

BATTLE GROUND — Chocolate is a lot of things to Pamela Wanous.

It’s an art form. It’s a science. It’s moody.

“Dark chocolate is this grumpy old man, and milk chocolate is a little princess,” said Wanous, 37. “We spend the whole day working with all milk or dark chocolate. You have to make friends to start, or you’re going to have a long day.”

Vancouver doctor, son die on scuba diving tour in Mexico

A Vancouver doctor and his 27-year-old son died Saturday in a scuba diving accident in the Pacific Ocean near Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Tom Dyehouse, 57, of Camas was the medical director for Legacy Medical Group Family Wellness in Vancouver.

“We do not have many details at this time, but we have been told this accident also took the life of his son, Graeme,” according to a written statement issued Monday morning by Legacy Medical Group.

Statewide 911 malfunctions reach Clark County

Statewide phone network outages are also causing problems at Clark County’s 911 service, Clark Regional Emergency Services Agency warned Thursday night, and the agency said callers with emergencies should instead dial 360-693-3111.

The county’s 311 service appeared to be unaffected, the agency said, and its 911 text message service also still functions.

In Clark County, single moms earn about half what single dads make

When Kayla Stotts and her ex separated last year, the mother of three boys overhauled her life, seemingly overnight.

“I became a single mom in the same month I got a job and an apartment,” Stotts said.

She’d put a degree and career on hold to raise her kids. When they separated, the Camas mom dove into the workforce and is now employed full time as a certified nursing assistant and intake coordinator at Touchmark Home Health. Her sons are 2, 4 and 7 years old.

Fire damages central Vancouver home on Christmas Eve

A Christmas Eve fire in the Oakbrook neighborhood damaged part of a house and killed a cat and dog, according to Vancouver firefighters.

The Vancouver Fire Department was called around 1:15 p.m. to a reported house fire in the 3500 block of Northeast 103rd Avenue, south of the interchange of Interstate 205 and state Highway 500.
