A Vancouver man was arrested late Friday night after allegedly hitting a medical response vehicle with the car he was driving, speeding off and crashing the car near Harmony Elementary School.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, a witness called police to alert them to a suspicious vehicle with a man slumped over in the front seat, Sgt. Rod Trumpf said Saturday. When emergency medical service responders arrived, the man, later identified as 33-year-old Anthony Allen Jennings, sped off, allegedly hitting an American Medical Response vehicle as he went.

Police chased the man before he crashed his vehicle on N.E. 172nd Avenue between N.E. 25th and 29th streets, Trumpf said. Jennings allegedly got out of the car and ran, but was found by police. Trumpf said there was “a struggle” between Jennings and an officer, resulting in both being injured. He did not say the extent of their injuries, but said both were medically treated and released.

The chase ended at about 11:15 p.m.

Jennings was booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license, Trumpf said.
