The Falcons finished strong to win the third-place game at the Surf ‘N Slam tournament in San Diego.

Brooke Walling scored the first nine points for Prairie (9-1), finishing with a team-high 21.

A day after suffering their first loss of the season, the Falcons shut down their opponent from Carlsbad, Calif., from the get-go, holding the Mavericks to six points in the first quarter.

“We just got after it defensively,” Prairie coach Hala Corral said. “We were much more calm today. Everyone was in the books, so that shows we moved the ball really well. We just went back to playing our defense and trusting teammates.”

Prairie senior Cassidy Gardner was named all-tournament.
