Magenta Theater wins lighting grant

Magenta Theater won a matching grant from the Murdock Charitable Trust to upgrade its stage lighting system.

Magenta raised $62,000 and earned an additional $62,000 from Murdock, according to a statement from founder and creative director Jaynie Roberts.

The current tungsten lighting system will come down in February, as soon as Magenta’s production of “Jeeves Takes a Bow” has closed. A new LED stage lighting system will debut with the March production, “Pack of Lies.”

“The LED lighting system will significantly reduce energy costs and expand the theatricality of the lighting effects used in productions,” said Magenta lighting designer Tom Hubbard. “In addition, it will be a much safer system for the company’s volunteers who design and operate the lighting system.”

The old system will be donated to Pacific Stageworks, a revived Vancouver theater company, Roberts said. To learn more about Magenta Theater, visit http://magentatheater.com.
