The Free Clinic of Southwest Washington has a new executive director. The clinic’s board appointed Ann Wheelock — who was appointed as interim director in September — to the leadership position this week.

Wheelock replaced Barbe West, who had previously served as executive director since 2009.

The Free Clinic provides free health care to children and adults who would otherwise be unable to access care. The clinic provides medical, dental, vision and specialty care with the help of more than 500 volunteers.

“Ann stepped in during a time of transition and has successfully navigated through quite a bit of change in that short amount of time,” Dawn Tolotti, president of the Free Clinic Board of Directors, said in a press release. “The clinic is blossoming under her leadership, and we are thrilled that she has agreed to carry on in this important leadership role.”

Wheelock’s previous work includes serving as chief executive officer of Columbia United Providers and chief financial officer of Vancouver Clinic. She’s also served on the Free Clinic’s board of directors, as board treasurer and on the finance committee.

“I have a much greater appreciation for how well run and efficient the clinic is after spending each day here over the last few months,” Wheelock said in a press release. “We have a wonderful group of staff and volunteers who do a lot with very limited resources. I am excited to help out.”
