Evergreen elementary students try local cabbage through monthly program

Hearthwood — Hearthwood Elementary School hosted this month’s Harvest of the Month, a joint program from Washington State University Extension’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education and Evergreen Public Schools’ Chartwells food service. This month’s local harvest was cabbage. Approximately 375 students were served up creamy coleslaw. The cabbage was harvested at Hilltop Produce Farms in Troutdale, Ore. Cabbage dishes will be featured on the lunch menu throughout the month at all Evergreen elementary schools.
