The Vancouver Police Department responded to an assault at 3:28 p.m. Saturday at Leverich Park, 4401 N.E. Leverich Park Way, Vancouver.
A man was standing in the lower parking lot at the park next to his minivan when a red car pulled in next to him, said Eric McCaleb, an officer with the Vancouver Police Department. The driver of the red car then got into a scuffle with another man, and the red car’s door started bumping into the man’s minivan.
The minivan owner then went to try and physically keep the red car’s door from bumping into the minivan door. When he attempted to close the red car’s door, the minivan owner started getting hit and fell to the ground where he was kicked. McCaleb said he didn’t know for sure how many people were involved in the fight, but said that the minivan owner’s description made it seem like it would be in the range of five to seven people.
Eventually the fight diffused and the minivan owner was able to stand up. Then, while standing in the middle of the parking lot, a man ran up from behind and hit the minivan owner in the neck and shoulders with nunchucks.
The minivan owner had some blood on his head, McCaleb said, and was seen on the scene by fire and medical response teams, but declined medical assistance. The case is under investigation, McCaleb said.
