Two Vancouver restaurants aim to bring good tidings and good food to those in need on Christmas Day.
After serving hundreds of hungry people on Thanksgiving Day, WareHouse ’23 owner Mark Matthias and state Court of Appeals Judge Rich Melnick are back at it; they will cook up a traditional turkey meal at the riverside restaurant at 100 Columbia St.
Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, ham, vegetables, gravy, vegetable soup and pie with whipped cream are all on the menu.
“We will serve anybody who shows up,” Melnick said, adding that people can arrive anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tuesday.
Some musicians will entertain the guests.
“We think Santa’s going to make an appearance, if he’s not too tired,” Melnick said. “I think he’ll be there. That’s the last I heard.”

Meanwhile, Bleu Door Bakery in Vancouver aims to feed 500 homeless people. The restaurant boxes up hot meals, and volunteers distribute them to people living on the streets and in camps and cars.
Bleu Door is collecting donations of hats, thick wool socks, gloves, scarves, tarps, hand warmers and thermal underwear to be given along with the meals. Anything donated for children will be given to YWCA Clark County for its shelter that houses domestic violence survivors.
