BATTLE GROUND — Eighteen children went on a prepaid shopping spree, chaperoned by Battle Ground police officers, at the local Walmart on Saturday, for the city’s annual Shop with a Cop event.

Battle Ground school staff nominated the children, and each one got $125 and all of the browsing time they needed. The day started at the Battle Ground Police Station, and the kids got a police vehicle escort to the store, complete with lights and sirens.

The city said the retailer’s foundation gave a $2,250 grant to support the event, now in its fifth year.
