Are you getting tired of the chilly weather? Then I have a forecast you will like. Well, maybe part of it. Highs will rise to 50 degrees or so the next seven days, and compared to the last several days, it may feel a bit like spring.
With clouds and continued east winds, the best we could do Sunday was 38 degrees for a high — the coldest high temperature since Feb. 21. As of 4 p.m. Monday, we had topped out at 43 degrees, which was also Saturday’s high.
We have a series of wet-weather systems coming our way the next week and a half, and with that will be high temperatures around the 50-degree mark. The bad news is that with the warmer temperatures, we will have plenty of rain. The National Climate Center on Monday issued their outlook for the weather through Dec. 20, and we are slated to have warmer than average temperatures and above normal precipitation.
That means rain in the valley and high-elevation snows. The central and north Cascades in Washington are expected to receive 3 or 4 feet through the upcoming weekend. Closer to home, Mount Hood will have less with snow levels averaging higher than the passes at times. Timberline and Meadows may fare well but may also have a slushy mess if freezing levels go too high for short periods.
