Week 1 winter sports prep athlete of the week: Jack Latimer, Camas wrestling

Latimer edges out Carter Monda for honor

Jack Latimer of Camas boys wrestling is the The Columbian winter sports prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending Dec. 8.

Latimer received 33 percent of the 1,309 votes cast this week to win the honor. Latimer captured the 132-pound title at the Rose City Championship in Beaverton, Ore. with an 11-3 win in the title match.

Nominees for winter sports athlete of the week are posted every Monday, with voting continuing through Thursday. An athlete may win the honor once during the regular season and cannot be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Other nominees this week were:

BEYONCE BEA, WASHOUGAL, GIRLS BASKETBALL: Bea averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds over three games and became Washougal’s career scoring leader.

ASHLYN DAUGHERTY, WOODLAND GIRLS WRESTLING: Daugherty won her second tournament title of the season, winning the 110-pound division at the War of the Roses Tournament in Beaverton, Ore.

ALEX CURRAN, BATTLE GROUND BOYS SWIMMING: Curran won the 100 backstroke in a state-qualifying time of 54.37 and won the 200 IM in a meet at Clark County YMCA.

CARTER MONDA, EVERGREEN BOYS BASKETBALL: Monda averaged 27 points over three games and set a school-record with nine 3-pointers in one game.
