Girls basketball: Castle Rock 47, Fort Vancouver 45, OT

Fort guard Paulina Jimenez-Francisco forced overtime by hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

And though Fort Vancouver (0-3) fell short in overtime, coach Arlisa Hinton found many positives her team can build on.

“Against Ridgefield on Monday, it was not good on our part,” she said. “Against Battle Ground on Wednesday, we looked better. Tonight, we were even better. We’re going in the right direction.”

Among the positives was making a clutch shot as the clock ran down. Jimenez-Francisco caught the ball in front of the Trappers bench and let it fly for her only points of the game.

“I told her ‘if you get it, just shoot it,” Hinton said.

Kailey Gonzalez led Fort with 18 points. Alba Martin-Lacasta added 11.

Kaitlyn Sullivan scored 12 points to lead Castle Rock (3-2). The Rockets held Fort to just one point in overtime.
