Molly Coston will remain the mayor of Washougal. Residents voted in favor of changing the city’s form of government from a mayor-council arrangement to a council-manager one in November. The change eliminated the mayoral seat, which Coston won in November 2017, but allowed her to stay on council if she wanted. Coston opted to remain on council, increasing the city council to eight members for the duration of her term, which runs until the end of 2021.
Once the change in government was complete, the city council was allowed to appoint the city’s next mayor. At Monday’s council meeting, the councilors unanimously appointed Coston to keep her position as mayor.
Also as part of the change in government, the city eliminated the city administrator position to make way for a city manager position. The councilors opted to keep David Scott on board as city manager. Scott had been city administrator since 2010.
