Two Port of Vancouver staff members, Richard Troudt and Wally Coon, were presented with a Patriot Award on Nov. 27. The award is presented on behalf of an employee who serves in the U.S. Army National Guard. Troudt, port security manager, and Coon, security supervisor, were nominated by Sgt. Scott Fox for their support of his service with B Company, 2-162nd Infantry Regiment at Fort Hunter in Liggett, Calif. Fox, who is a security officer in his civilian position, suffered an injury during military training and was unable to immediately return to his duties at the port.

Paul Speer was appointed to the Clark College Board of Trustees by Gov. Jay Inslee. Speer has had a long career in the technology industry, including more than 25 years at Hewlett-Packard Company, where he retired as the vice president of development strategy. A Clark County resident for the past 37 years, he has volunteered with almost 20 different organizations, including boards at the The Historic Trust, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Social Venture Partners International, Leadership Clark County, and the Nonprofit Network of Southwest Washington; and advisory boards of iUrban Teen, Cascadia Tech Academy, and the Superintendent’s Management Task Force for Vancouver Public Schools. He has chaired the University of Portland’s Engineering Dean’s Advisory Council and its Franz Center for Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation board; the city of Vancouver’s Aviation Advisory Committee; and the Pearson Field Education Center. Speer’s appointment ends Sept. 30, 2023.

Maren Calvert was selected to serve on Identity Clark County’s 2019 Ed Lynch Board Seat, a one-year courtesy appointment to the board of directors. Calvert recently joined Horenstein Law Group after serving 20 years in the Air Force. The Ed Lynch Board Seat was formed in 2015 to honor the late Edward Lynch, who chaired Identity Clark County for more than a decade. Identity Clark County is a nonprofit business advocacy organization comprised of local business leaders. Columbia Springs, 12208 S.E. Evergreen Highway, hired Dave Eitland as its development director, a role supported by a grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Eitland brings 30 years of philanthropic experience to the position.
