Carter Monda’s shot had looked pure, but it hadn’t been going in.

That all changed on Monday.

Monda scored 33 points and had a school-record nine 3-pointers as Evergreen beat Hockinson 96-52.

Evergreen coach Brett Henry said Monda had felt frustrated during his first two games, a win over Heritage and a loss to Skyview. A lot of Monda’s shots went in-and-out as he scored 18 and 11 points, respectively.

But a good shooting practice worked out the kinks.

Monda really caught fire in the second quarter, when scored 16 of Evergreen’s 32 points and made four 3-pointers.

Zyell Griffin scored 14 points and Travis Huffman added 13 for Evergreen.

“We have the ability to shoot, but they weren’t going in Friday (against Skyview),” Henry said. “The law of averages caught up.”

Mario Herring had 10 rebounds and five blocks for Evergreen, which had 25 assists.

Micah Paulson scored 18 points and Dakota Souders added 15 for Hockinson (0-2).
