A player who didn’t step onto the court Saturday night may have had the biggest impact for the Woodland boys baketball team.
A suggestion from Tommy Lewellen to switch some players defensively helped the Beavers erase a 16-point third-quarter deficit and beat Fort Vanvouver 86-81 in overtime.
“I thought the idea came from one of my assistant coaches,” Woodland coach Andrew Johnson said. “But it was all Tommy. He saw something, we made the change and it really helped.”
Fort Vancouver led 43-30 at halftime, and the Trappers stretch their advantage to 16.
But Isaiah Flanagan’s runner at the buzzer cut the deficit to eight, and the Beavers were able to tie the game in the fourth and force overtime.
