Freshman quarterback Nikki Scott’s threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Kahai Umiamaka inside 30 seconds left to give Heritage a 21-17 come-from-behind nonleague football victory Friday over Evergreen at McKenzie Stadium.
Anthony Kee’s four consecutive running plays set up a second-and-goal situation from the 8-yard line when Scott found Umiamaka for his second touchdown pass of the game and only second-half score for the Timberwolves (1-0).
Scott, making his high-school debut, finished 11 of 25 for 253 yards and two touchdowns, including 201 first-half yards on 6 of 15 completions when Heritage and Evergreen were tied 14-14 at halftime.
The third quarter was stagnant for both offenses, but Evergreen (0-1) ate more than 5 minutes on the clock in the fourth quarter when Eli Del-Angel’s 29-yard field goal gave the Plainsmen their first lead at 17-14 with 3 minutes, 12 seconds to go.
