Skyview High grad and former Washington State pitcher Ian Hamilton was called up to the big leagues by the Chicago White Sox on Friday and made his major league debut later that night against the Boston Red Sox.

Hamilton, wearing No. 63, pitched the ninth inning of Chicago’s 6-1 victory. He threw all of six pitches for his three outs.

Hamilton began the 2018 season at Double-A Birmingham where he posted a 1.78 ERA with 34 strikeouts and 12 saves in 21 appearances, earning a spot on the Southern League All-Star Team. Hamilton was promoted to Triple-A Charlotte in late June where he recorded 10 saves, a 1.71 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 22 appearances.

Hamilton, an 11th-round draft pick by the White Sox in 2016, pitched three seasons for the Cougars (2014-16), earning All-Pac-12 Conference honors three times and finished his career with a school-record 28 saves.

In 70 career appearances, the righthander posted a 3.60 ERA and struck out 123 in 160 career innings.
