Weather Eye: Our long Labor Day weekend should bring mild temperatures

We enjoyed another late summer day Wednesday with the high actually above average at 85 degrees. The average high and low are 81 and 56 degrees, respectively. That drops off quickly as September rolls in. Vancouver was the warmest location in Western Washington on Wednesday.

Today we see some marine clouds off the ocean and perhaps some drizzle here and there. Another weak weather system slides by, keeping us cool — about 70 degrees or so. As I mentioned here Tuesday, high pressure is just off our coast and rather stationary, so we continue in a northwest flow of air for the next week or so. A few more low-pressure systems will slide down the British Columbia coast but should remain to our north as far as any measurable rainfall goes.

That gives us a green light for the long holiday weekend. Some degree of morning clouds possible but plenty of fall-like hazy skies in the afternoon with temperatures in the 70s. Near perfect to me.

Next week the same weather pattern holds but the high pressure off the coast moves a bit closer and will push afternoon highs in the 80- to 85-degree range as it looks right now. September will arrive as August did, on a warm and mostly sunny note.

August will go into the record books as a warm and dry month. The only rainfall we have had this month in Vancouver was a three-day period, Aug. 25-27, and then less than a tenth of an inch with .09 of an inch. Unless we get measurable drizzle or sprinkles today that statistic will remain.
