Men’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark played two exhibition “friendlies” at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila.

On Aug. 23, the Penguins lost 2-0 to Walla Walla, allowing goals in the 50th and 79th minutes. Goalkeepers Chris Henry (Prairie HS) and Sergio Sandoval (La Center HS) combined for five saves to Clark, which was outshot 7-2.

The next day, Clark played to a 1-1 draw against Pierce College. Christian Hernandez’s goal in the 40th minute tied the score.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark opens regular-season play Tuesday at home against Tacoma. Northwest Athletic Conference play begins the following weekend.

Women’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark split two exhibition matches at Starfire on Aug. 23-24.

The Penguins opened with a 2-1 win over Walla Walla. Turner Joy opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Sierra Nerton (Prairie HS) broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 70th minute with Hannah Eakins (Washougal HS) providing the assist.

Maggie Higgins had seven saves, playing all 90 minutes in goal for Clark.

The next day, Clark lost 4-0 to Highline, surrendering three second-half goals.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark doesn’t play until a Sept. 8 match at Chemeketa in Salem, Ore.

Volleyball

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark fell to Pierce College 3-0 in its home opener Wednesday. Jordan Johnson let the Penguins with nine kills.

Clark went 2-4 at the NWAC Showcase Aug. 25-26 in Eugene, Ore. The Penguins beat Centralia 2-0 and Shoreline 2-1 after dropping matches against Whatcom (2-0), Lower Columbia (2-1), Walla Walla (2-0) and Spokane (2-0).

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark faces Walla Walla on Thursday at O’Connell Sports Center. The Penguins then host Bellevue on Sept. 4.

Cross Country

The Clark men’s and women’s teams open their seasons Sept. 7 at the Ash Creek Invite in Monmouth, Ore.
