Vancouver police are investigating a Monday morning crash on the edge of the Hudson’s Bay neighborhood that involved a patrol car striking a bicyclist.

The crash happened about 5:15 a.m. in the area of East Evergreen and Grand boulevards, according to a Vancouver Police Department news release.

An officer was responding to a call about a vehicle submerged in the Columbia River near Marine Park, said police department spokeswoman Kim Kapp, when the police vehicle struck the cyclist.

The 64-year-old man, whose name was not released, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

The police department’s traffic unit is looking into what happened. Police shut down the intersection at Evergreen and Grand in all directions.

As for the vehicle in the river, it was pulled from the water, Kapp said. The car’s driver was on land when officers arrived, she said. The person was cited for being a minor intoxicated in a public place, and the car was towed.
