Weather Eye: Weak system brings us a better chance of drizzle or light rain

Saturday was kind of a ho-hum type of day, especially after the hot, dry weather we had for weeks on end. The high topped out at 70 degrees, some 10 degrees below average, but no one is complaining.

A weak system moved through Clark County on Saturday afternoon but brought nothing but some clouds and helped keep temperatures down. It did also bring some haze or smoke from fires in British Columbia. The Washington Coast had some light rain Saturday but generally less than a tenth of an inch.

Today another weak system follows and we see more clouds and cool temperatures and a better chance of some drizzle or light rain as the day wears on. Any amounts would be less than a tenth of an inch.

Boy, we sure could use a soaking, as the last measurable rain here in Vancouver was July 2. Things are mighty dusty, to say the least. Strong high pressure remains to our west and a series of weather systems are riding over the top of it and sliding down the B.C. coast. So, we remain on the edge of moisture at times this week. I’m thinking the high pressure pushes ever so slightly our way and keeps us mainly dry and at times warmer back into the 80s.

Early Saturday morning, it was chilly in some parts of Clark County. Weather watcher Phil Delany above Dole Valley recorded a low of 37 degrees. A sign of impending fall weather.

Lane, since downgraded from hurricane to tropical storm status, dumped more than 42 inches of rain on some parts of Hawaii. That is more rain than Vancouver receives in an entire year. Amazing.
