Woman says restaurant fired her for being pregnant

MARYSVILLE — A Washington woman claims she was fired from a Jersey Mike’s Subs restaurant because she is pregnant.

Kameisha Denton of Marysville has a text message from the store manager that reads, “Hello I am sorry to inform you but it’s not going to workout with Jersey Mikes. It’s not a good time for us to have someone who is leaving for maternity leave in several months anyways. You also failed to tell me this during our interview. Good luck to.”

The store owner, Tim Trieb, said he is aware of the text, and said the manager resigned Wednesday because of the incident. Trieb called Denton, apologized for the situation and offered her the job back. Denton declined.

State law says: “It is an unfair practice for an employer, because of pregnancy or childbirth, to refuse to hire or promote, terminate, or demote, a woman.”
